Beyond The Brochure!
About That Brochure…
So . . . which brochure have you been reading? Maybe it’s one that promises “clear sailing” or “romantic sunsets” or “excitement guaranteed!” Maybe you’re into the financial brochures that read “no money down” or “financial freedom in 30 days” or “sell a million dollars a month without leaving home.”
For many years now, the brochures of our lives have promised success, satisfaction, and wealth, and some of those promises have been kept. Because the purpose of a brochure is to encourage someone to take part in something or to teach, one thing is usually missing from them: the sail that tears, the sunset that’s ruined by a thunderstorm, and the excitement that is promised goes bust.
Just as our lives experience cycles, so does our country. Few of us living today have ever experienced a serious “for worse” part of the national cycle until recently. Yet, it has been those periods in the history of our country that have brought out the best in us. The Great Depression of the thirties was the catalyst for the strong work ethic of the baby boomers. Two world wars taught us to value our freedom. Let’s hope the recent global pandemic period went down in the history books as one of perseverance in the face of trials.
So, maybe life isn’t always “what the brochure promises.” We are a resilient people. We need to be able to hit the ground running soon, made stronger by the adversity we have endured. Tack your life’s brochure to the wall, and be encouraged by those promises of good things to come.
