The Freedom of Being “Unreachable”!

Who Needs an Invisibility Cloak?
Several years ago, scientists at Duke University created what they considered an “invisibility cloak.” The metamaterial bends electromagnetic radiation around itself, making whatever it covers appear invisible. So far they have only tested the device with microwaves, but the theory may work with visible light, too. It’s all a rather complicated process, but fascinating to imagine that we could someday wear an article of clothing and disappear from sight!
How many of us have wondered what it would be like to be invisible? As children, we marveled at the power of anonymity to create havoc, or imagined listening undetected to forbidden conversations. As teenagers, perhaps we longed for invisibility from the difficulties posed during that stage of life. Then, the fantasy of invisibility was a good and fun one, in the spirit of escapism.
But as adults, does the desire for invisibility leave us? We all have days we would love nothing more than to disappear from the grind of everyday life: invisibility from the cell phone, from the kids, or from being “on call.” And guess what? It just might be the very thing to do!
Don’t wait for invisibility clothing to become available to the masses! Make time for yourself a priority–even for just a few hours each week–telling everyone you’re going invisible for a bit and cannot be seen. Use that time to read, write, go out for a coffee, take a walk; whatever you find restorative. You will be a better you–wait and see!
